Can you eat the salmon skin?

If it’s wild and sustainably caught you can!

The skin is where absorption happens. On our bodies, and in fish. As long as a fish has been swimming in the wild and eating it’s natural foods, you CAN eat the skin of the salmon!

There are rich omega-3’s found in the skin of the salmon, and when you leave the salmon skin on while cooking, it helps lock in the moisture of the salmon you’re cooking. One of the best ways to try eating salmon skin specifically is by making "Salmon Skin Bacon"

Salmon Skin "Bacon" Recipe:

  1. Once your Premier Catch Salmon portion is thawed, place the portion on a cutting board, and using a sharp knife or fillet knife, remove the skin from the salmon.
  2. Scrape off any leftover salmon flesh from the skin
  3. Cut the skin into 1 inch strips - like bacon! Pat dry with paper towels. This part is key and may take some time to get most of the moisture out of the skin so be patient here.
  4. Add sesame oil to a skillet and place over medium-high heat
  5. When the oil is hot, add the dried strips of salmon skin to the pan, turning the strips as needed to prevent burning
  6. When crispy, remove the strips and place on a paper towel to drain the excess oil
  7. Add salt to taste and serve with a side of soy sauce for dipping!
