Premier Catch is all about sustainability. We want you to know where your fish is caught, the fishing method used to catch it and what boats and fishermen/fisherwomen catch it. One aspect of sustainability outside of our fishing methods that is really important to us is how we package and deliver our fish to you.
Seafood is difficult to ship given the cost, size, weight and its perishable nature. Given these characteristics, most companies opt to use styrofoam. Styrofoam is less expensive and is an efficient means to insulate seafood. Like many companies, Joci and I started Premier Catch having to use styrofoam as our means for delivering our products to your doorstep. From the beginning, we have said one of our primary goals was to improve our shipping materials in search of the most sustainable and eco-friendly products.
Premier Catch got it done! Our shipping customers will begin to see carbon neutral packaging from our new fulfillment center - a certified B -Corp - beginning in May 2021. So, what does this mean?
“Carbon Neutral” means that our fulfillment center supports projects, such as native tree planting, to balance emissions from the transportation and delivery of packages.
“Certified B Corp” means these corporations meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. Our fulfillment center facilities are powered with 100% solar energy to offset the emissions from shipping and from the dry ice use. The facilities have been retrofitted to conserve water, and they recycle over 50% of waste they create.
“Green Packaging” means that we use biodegradable and environmentally friendly packaging. No more styrofoam!
This is something we have been passionately working on and we are so proud to continue to make Premier Catch the best!
Joci and I have just as many questions as you do about how we can be healthy ourselves, help our environment, and ensure that our families are doing their very best to contribute to a healthy planet. If you have any questions about our products, our packaging, our shipping or any of the steps we are taking, we would love to talk! And, as always, we welcome any and all feedback on how we can be better. We want healthy families and a healthy planet.
